Setting goals for oneself, in this new year, may be particularly difficult taking into account the personal and family challenges that individuals already may have in front of them as we confront lockdown 3.0. From home schooling to working from at home the time available for personal attention is hard to justify. However, this makes it all the more important.
Taking care of your mind as well as your body is really important in these times. It is important to try to stay on track by eating right, obtaining some ‘me time’ through exercise and ensuring a regular pattern of sleep and rest is implemented. Consistency is key.
Here are a few tips that might help us to keep active and well in these covid times.
Get some fresh air every day. This is essential for a healthy mind and body. You always feel better in yourself after getting out.
Plan practical things: whether it be getting shopping, obtaining your medicines from your pharmacy or going to an appointment planning makes you focus and keeps the mind alert.
Stay connected with others: Maintaining healthy relationships with people you trust is important for your mental wellbeing. You can stay in contact with friends and family by phone, messaging or social media.
Talk to someone: if you have worries or fears or feel helpless in the current situation remember you are not alone. A lot of people are experiencing these thoughts at the moment so share your concerns with someone you trust. A problem shared is a problem halved.
Do not stay glued to the news and social media: we all like to keep abreast of the current situation but really this can have such a negative effect on our minds its best to maybe just check in once a day and use reliable sources.
Try to do something every day that you enjoy. It is important to make an effort to do something that you enjoy. It is easy to overlook ourselves when there is so much going on around us but a few minutes can make a big difference! This can be a bit of relaxation time too!!
Try to get a good nights sleep: Good-quality sleep makes a huge difference to how we feel, so its important to try to maintain a regular sleeping pattern.
Be kind to yourself!
